Tangyuan Recipe
What Am I?
Hiya, I'm Tang Yuan.
I'm a Chinese dessert made of glutinous rice flour in water, containing a sweet black sesame filling.
I'm currently bathing in a subtle ginger sugar syrup <3
This recipe makes 4 servings of me hehe!
What yuu need to make me
AKA Ingredients
- 1 cup black sesame paste
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 5cm knob of ginger
- 1/2 cup warm water
Method
- Line a tray with baking paper.
- Roll the black sesame filling into balls of diameter 1.5cm
- Fill up the tray with these balls
- Place tray into the freeze once the tray is filled up
- Put the sweet rice flour into a mixing bowl. Slowly add in the warm water, while stirring to form a dough. The dough can’t be too wet, or it will not hold its shape. Cover with a damp towel.
- Take the filling tray from out of the freezer
- Pinch some dough off and roll until it becomes a sphere
- Press the dough ball until flattened into a circle
- Place a filling ball onto the dough circle
- Wrap up the filling in the dough until it is completely covered
- Set ball aside on a tray
- Make tangyuan until the tray fills up
- Cut the ginger into slices
- Bring a medium pot of water to a boil
- Drop the ginger into the water
- Dissolve the sugar in the water
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil
- Add the sesame balls and stir immediately to prevent them from sticking. Adding the sesame balls will cool down the water temperature significantly, so once the water comes back up to a boil, add a 1/2 cup of water to the pot.
- Take out balls and plate up with a scoop of the ginger syrup
